A five month residency with young people from Newcastle, Gateshead
and South Tyneside. In eight separate locations, 100 young people produced
T-shirts spelling out GREAT NORTH RUN and ran with them on, creating new
words as they swapped positions.
They developed digital video and still images from which six were enlarged
up to 48-sheet billboard format and installed around the region in the lead
up to the 20th Great North Run, the world's largest half-marathon.
Participating groups: Ridgeway Primary School, The Customs House Youth
Dance Group, South Benwell Primary School, Dunston Youth Gymnastics Group,
Little Theatre Youth Drama Group, The Last Resort Youth Club in North Benwell,
the Millin Centre Young Asian Women's Group and the Kids Kabin - established
in Walker in 1993 by The Sisters of the Assumption. An ISIS ARTS NEW MEDIA PROJECT commissioned by Northern Arts, Nova International
and Newcastle Gateshead Initiative. Additional support from The Millennium Festival,
the Northern Rock Foundation, The Millennium Commission and Year Of The Artist. |
